BalCal 6.2 Hit or Miss Program
This is a training program that displays a target, a user's ballistic data, and a set of
conditions. It is then up to the user to observe all of the available data,
compensate for it, and then use the left mouse button to 'fire' a shot at it. A right
mouse button click will position a sight picture on top of the target. The results of
a fired 'shot' are shown in the picture below. The aim point is marked by a purple
crosshair, the amount of
lead is shown as vertical blue line. A red circle is plotted on the predicted point
of impact which represents the dispersion of the firearm/load combination.
A green circle is plotted around the red circle and it represents the dispersion due
to combined shooter and firearm/load dispersion. Around all of that are plotted some
light blue quadrant arcs which indicate the possible error due to the shooter's
wind and distance estimation error. Once a 'shot' is fired the user can look
at the green and light blue boxes on the lower left to see how much compensation should
actually have been used for the conditions and his zero. A click on the orange
'randomize conditions' button will randomize all of the conditions that are checked.
These are the orange check boxes on the left. The 4 red box values on
the left side set the maximum randomized values for range, wind mph, target speed,
and target up/down hill angle. At the very bottom is a stock sticker information
box which can be printed and taped to the side of the stock. Observe the following
shot fired screen:
